Gratitude Journal Day 18

Today I am grateful for:

1) WFRN, my favorite Christian radio station, which keeps me company on the way to and from work.

2) the aroma of wood smoke.  When we lived in Ohio, our main source of heat was an airtight wood stove, a Hutch Rebel.  Wood heat was dirty, but it kept us mighty warm for the twenty years we lived there.  Smelling the smoke evokes many memories.  The hubby used to cut the wood and I used to load.  The kids helped stack and, when they were older, ran a splitter.  Wood heat is WARM.  In comparison, although I am glad I have heat, the forced air we have here in Indiana just doesn’t compare.

3) the hubby’s retirement.  I know this sounds weird, but now we do many of the same things that we did when we were first married, and the memories of those newly married times are sweet.  We shop together.  We have more time to talk.  More importantly, although the hubby is busy with other activities, with the stress of work gone, he smiles like he used to, and we all know that a husband’s smile warms a wife’s heart.

I wonder if my husband will ever retire. He’s old enough, but he won’t stop. (sigh)
