On a Typical Day in Indiana…

…the letter R turns up missing. Everywhere. At least in Greencastle. They’re calling it the work of the consonant crook. You can click here to see pictures of the R-less signs and even watch a newscast about the story from WTHR.

R-less signs, like the one that says, “Indiana A my, National Gua d, Defende s of F eedom,” deserve a second look. And they’ll get one, at least until the mystery is solved. Almost two dozen business are affected. The letters cost $3 a piece, so their sense of humor about the whole thing has a limit.

Many thanks to Kevin at Wizbang for calling my attention to the R-less situation. As a former English teacher, his title, “Missing R’s Baffle Indiana Town,” caught my eye. I sort of like his take on the whole thing: “…there’s only one thing you can do with that many R’s…Make pirate signs, Arrr!

Sometimes that’s life in the Hoosier state!
