A Little Child Shall Lead Them

Before we left Columbus with RJ, we went with my son and his family to watch my son play in a church softball game. The game was almost over when the catcher was hit by a bat and went down. His glasses were shattered, and he had a large gash in the side of his head, so the other players kept him down and called 9-1-1.

Tony, who is one and a half, didn't really notice that too much was going on, at least until the paramedics and ambulance came, but RJ did. He was very bothered by the fact that there was a lot of blood. I told him that if you hurt your head, you bleed a lot, but he was still worried. So, right there under the tree by the ball field, he bowed his head, folded his three-year-old hands and began to pray for the hurt man.

My son said the team prayed also, but I did not catch that. Sitting next to RJ, though, I was both humbled by his prayer and blessed by the fact that I could see that his faith had taken root. RJ's daddy and mommy were busy, but there was a problem, and he knew where to turn.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 11:6
