There’s a big snowstorm coming to central Indiana, or so they say. Six plus Ten to seventeen inches of snow with twenty-five to forty mile an hour winds and possible blizzard conditions. It seems like the perfect time to do some of my holiday baking, but I’m not sure there are enough hours in the day.
The hubby wants some peanut brittle. I am going to try some Death by White Chocolate Cookies. Then there’s the Peppermint Bark and the Peppermint Bark Chocolate Cookies that I want to try even though the hubby has no interest.
We are supposed to take a dessert to the Advent Soup Supper at church on Thursday, and the hubby wants to make these Peanut Butter Christmas Mice. I guess you know what we will be doing when I get home from school Wednesday. I hope they turn out!
Before we leave for Ohio, I need to make Cranberry Nut Bread for the kids. It’s a Christmas tradition for us. And then for Christmas Day, I want to make a Date Nut Roll for my dad. My mom and his mom used this recipe. When we get to the son’s after Christmas, the daughter-in-law wants to try this Pumpkin Pecan Rum Cake. Whew!
I know we don’t need all of this to eat, and I plan to pass a LOT of it around. The kids at school are trapped in fifth period all week because of exams (it’s the only period that meets every day AND as an exam period). I might take some cookies there to keep them under control. A few of “my” boys requested plain old chocolate chip.
Even though I don’t need it, there’s something about baking for the holidays that is extremely fulfilling, and I am looking forward to it. I think I’ll play Christmas carols–loud–the whole time.
