Waiting

The son interviewed for a job he really wanted in August. Twice. After that, he expected to hear about the job any time. The daughter-in-law and I prayed that he’d hear by his birthday, August 25th. So we waited. And waited. And waited.

Tonight we were at the Advent supper at church when he called. He heard about the job today. He starts January 7th. So while he didn’t get as happy a birthday as we had hoped, he is certainly having a Merry Christmas.

I don’t know why he didn’t hear more quickly than he did. His father and I figured that either God didn’t want him to have that particular job, or He didn’t want him to have it yet. Either way, we are grateful that he and his family have reason to rejoice.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
